The Beacon Cove project transformed the Port Melbourne waterfront from an industrial area to a residential area featuring walkways and housing in a huge mixed-use street based precinct.

The Beacon Cove project commenced in 1996 and is approximately 30 hectares, incorporating around 950 new dwellings. It has been integrated into the Port Melbourne community and culminates in a 500 metre long public waterfront promenade.

The public waterfront acts as a recreational focus point for the community, centralised with a large urban square at Station Pier. The Port Melbourne waterfront has been further enhanced by the recent restoration of the historic Princes Pier, which sits adjacent to Station Pier in Port Phillip Bay.

The Beacon Cove redevelopment was a Joint Venture between Major Projects Victoria and Mirvac. (from Major Projects website: http://www.majorprojects.vic.gov.au/project/beacon-cove/)
